What People Say About Them
Kari Lia, Exec Producer: "James is the type of filmmaker you always want to work with - professional, reliable, but also hugely creative and fun. He works to the highest standard and delivers every time."
Deborah Lee, Series Producer: "James is a multi-talented director who excels at building good relationships across all levels—from commissioners to junior team members—and is especially skilled at getting the best out of presenters. He's highly experienced in working with top DoPs but is also an excellent self-shooter with a strong visual sense who's collaborative yet decisive, and he handled a punishing schedule with impressive stoicism and good humour. He's smart, empathetic and creative and thrives on novel challenges."
Exec Producer: "James was a delight to work with and directed a highly successful flim."
The Human Behind The CV
James is a husband, dad to three daughters, and somehow manages to juggle family life in Bromley with a career making award-winning documentaries for the biggest names in the business (which probably explains his patience and good humour on set).
Before filmmaking, he was briefly an art teacher, a reggae and soul DJ, and smuggled himself into Tibet when he was 19.
These days, when he's not in the edit or on location, he's more likely to be walking the dog, rewatching The Wire (again), or running off stress on a Sunday morning. He recently learned to sail but hasn't been on a boat since, but still dreams of one day taking on an epic ocean voyage.

James is creative, calm, and endlessly good company. He's knows exactly how to get the best out of contributors, crew and on-screen talent, and somehow keeps the energy high no matter how punishing the schedule. Sharp on story from scripting to delivery, visually inventive and full of ideas, he brings big creative ambition without ever losing the human touch. Execs love that he always delivers; crews love that he makes the process fun; editors love his clarity of vision. Basically, he's the person who’s creativity, good humour and excellent relationship building can turn the seemingly impossible, into a jaw-dropping on-screen reality.
